Hutch painted in RECORD time!

Hutch painted in RECORD time!

My darling realtor and friend gifted me this hutch that had outlived its welcome in her home. She also gave me sparkly doodads, which you might recognize as clear acrylic knobs. It is a little hard to tell in the picture, but the paint is actually a warm navy blue. The interior is (duh) PINK. And awesome. I doubted my plans to go navy and hot pink when I was at the hardware store, actually trying to pick a paint, but in the end, I remembered one of my DIY mantras: “Relax, it’s only paint.” I mean, if the pink turned out more Pepto than perfect, I could just prime and repaint. My friend C came over and helped me with the paint choices, sanding, and getting the first coat of navy blue paint on. She was a huge help and excellent company. She was also an excellent DJ, playing a live Buena Vista Social Club album. After C left, I touched up the navy and got to work on the four, count them, four coats of pink paint.

Kitchen Inspiration

On Monday, my awesome buyer’s agent showed up with this little number.  She brought it as kitchen inspiration after reading my last post.  Don’t you just love it?

Kitchen inspiration – teal dutch oven. Love.

Nice shot of the kitchen counters as they currently are.  I need to take a better shot so you can see the edging – they look a little DIYed.  Even better, Mary Brett had bought me a diet Coke and it was tucked inside that baby.  She knows me so well!

Contractor #3 was delightful, and I knew he would be because he is married to a dear friend and came highly recommended.  I just hope that in addition to being delightful, he is a magical budget-stretching renovation genie, because it turns out the leak from the master bathroom’s shower stall isn’t just the drain ($), but is in fact the shower pan ($$$).

Fingers crossed, and if anyone sees a magic lamp, rub it for Casa Elephant Culo.  She needs some good luck!

Monday, Monday

Tomorrow I meet another contractor.  Hopefully between him and contractor #1, I’ll get an estimate that gets the must-haves addressed.  Hope, hope, hope!

I’d really like to move from the must-haves to the wants.  I love making where I live pretty.  I love to decorate, especially if that involves crafting or mess-making (two different, but highly related activities).  But the house is not move in ready.  It is not ready for my craftiness!  So I have to make myself content with window-shopping, pinning things on Pinterest, and day-dreaming.

All this to say, (1) consider yourselves on notice, there WILL be a painting party! and (2) look at the gorgeous, gorgeous things that Green Front Interiors has just down the street from me.  Their stuff is not cheap (ergo, not in my price range) but it is well-made and really nicely curated.
